20g salt water tank

sorry no audio (iphone 4 speaker is broke). 20g Salt water tank….. 2 years old don’t know why i have so much algae…. i do have a hang on filter and a refugium and a coralife lighting. the blue bulb doesn’t work (no idea why) 3 fish….. please leave comments. let me know what you think. *once i get this tank back in to tip top shape i will set up a 55g sw* o and there is a Purple Pseudochromis 2 clownfish fish i had 10 snails im down to 5… my nitrate and nitrite and ammonia lvls are all ok did a water change today..

There are a number of saltwater tank supplies and equipment you will need to have a healthy environment for your saltwater fish. Being familiar and knowing each element is crucial, but it does not have to be overwhelming. Some people will go for a huge tank of 100 gallons or more, while some people think smaller is easier and get a 10 gallon tank. For beginners it is recommended that you look at saltwater tanks in the sizes of 30-50 gallons. These sizes allow for a person to get use to the care of a saltwater tank, but it also gives the most room for error. Large and small tanks require more specific care because you are either needing to tend to bigger area with more marine life to care for or deal with how picky a small tank is with no room for error.

For books (which I do recommend), try The New Marine Aquarium by Michael S. Paletta. Microcosm Ltd. ISBN 1-890087-52-1 or The Conscientious Marine Aquarist by Robert M. Fenner. Microcosm Ltd. ISBN 1-890087-02-5 for the basics. Once you get into more specific aspects of marine aquaria, anything by Julian Sprung is good.

It’s good to see someone doing their research before buying. You’re right in that there are differences in setups, from fish-only (the least expensive) to fish-only with live rock (FOWLR, almost as cheap, but more natural looking and better biofiltration), to reef (most expensive and hardest to maintain).

If you plan it well, you can start at an easier level and switch over to reef as you gain experience, or start right into a reef tank, starting with easier soft corals, then moving into stony corals. Your only limited by the amount of work you want to do for upkeep and your budget.
