Understanding the Crowntail

The Crowntail Betta is a member of the Belontiidae family that is home in Cambodia, Laos, and Thailand. The main reason people wish to add the Crowntail to their fish tank is their very noticeable elegant tail. This betta has a tail unlike the rest of the family, which distinguishes this fish as well as makes it the most popular betta. The Crowntail has a tail that is in the shape of a teardrop.

Not only is this fish one of the most unique fish in the betta group but it is also a type of Siamese Fighting Fish. This type of fish has been bred with the endeavor to enhance their finds and various colors of the males and of course to heighten their already aggressive nature. Due to this reason, alone, only one male can reside in the same aquarium. You will even need to watch this aggressive guy with females. The females you place in the tank should be smaller and have shorter fins or there will be trouble. The Crowntail male will have to live life as an isolated bachelor, but of course can be placed with a female for breeding purposes, but only for short periods of time. Female Crowntails are also beautiful but normally do not have the long fins like the males.

The Crowntail prefers a water temperature that is between 75 and 86 degrees Fahrenheit and needs at least one gallon of water to stay happy. The sad thing is that you will find the Crowntail for sale in all kinds of small bowls, vases, and other glass products that are the proper way for the fish to have what it needs to survive.

Your fish will do better with as mentioned above at least one gallon of water, more is better with a few plants for hiding. His favorite foods are frozen or freeze-dried bloodworms, brine shrimp, and flake food. This type of fish needs a variety of food in order to stay healthy. You can always feed your Crowntail pellets, but they love live food over frozen any day. When your fish is finished eating, remove any leftover particles of food. This will help to keep the tank clean longer.

If you are searching for a few friends to add to the aquarium, your Crowntail will get along well with Angelfish, Catfish, Danios, Guppies, Loaches, Mollies, Platies, Plecos, Rasboras, Swordtails, and Tetras.
